Our mission is to highlight diversity within the calligraphy space and to provide resources and community for BIPOC calligraphers and their businesses.

Calligraphers of Color is an inclusive online community that provides resources for and highlights BIPOC calligraphers and their businesses.
Our focus is on reaching and highlighting Black & Brown calligraphers as they are under-represented in the calligraphy space. Our goal is to show how calligraphers are just as diverse as the art. Calligraphy is a way to express ourselves, our culture, and who we are as people.
Our hope is that we can also connect calligraphy artists and businesses with potential client who may be seeking Black calligraphers or BIPOC calligraphy artists.
NOTE: While we honor and respect talented artists of every demographic, our goal is to highlight, celebrate, and promote BIPOC calligraphy artists who have been historically underrepresented in the calligraphy arts.

OUR STORY
Calligraphers of Color was founded in July 2019, by founder Amanda Reid after noticing the lack of diversity in the calligraphy industry. “I created this page after having a VERY hard time of finding other calligraphers and letterers that look like me. I remember standing in my kitchen and thinking this has to change! So right then and there, I created this page [on Instagram] and hoped for the best.” The community began online on social media starting off with about 500 followers. The group grew after the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 and many people began to seek out more inclusivity and diversity. The page grew to over 14K that year. ***
